I know I haven’t been blogging much, but for good reasons. We are giving the master bedroom a little makeover. We spent the first 2.5 years of our marriage sleeping on a full (both pregnancies and cosleeping) and the last 2.5 years sleeping on a way too firm queen. When I was home in PA, I slept through the night every night. It has definitely been 5 years since I’ve had consecutive full night sleeps. I’m a light sleeper so when Brandon talks, snores, or breathes too loud I usually wake up. I hear all the noises the house makes. I’m too paranoid to sleep with earplugs at home because I hear the kids before Brandon. The chances of them getting up, going downstairs, and walking out front door that is chained is slim, but I’m convinced they will do it anyway. I also like to take up 85% of the queen bed and make a little comfy nest out of the blankets. When Brandon creeps onto my side he wakes me up.
I’m basically the worst person to share a bed with. I am also a horrible roommate, but I am totally self aware of my social short comings.
Part of us celebrating 5 years of marriage is upgrading our bed. I figured since we are custom making a SUPER king (full xl + twin xl all in one bed frame) sized bed we should just go ahead and make the rest of the room more us. I will talk all about the bed in another post!
Here are some before shots. I even cleaned up a bit – not because I’m concerned about the Internet judging me, but because my mother reads my blog. We all know how moms nag about clean rooms…
This is what you see from the doorway. I like blue, but this shade is too dull and sad for us. We like bright and light.

The lamp shades need a change. My mom bought me all three lamps for $50 10ish years ago. In order to stay within budget of the project I need to come up with something crafty/frugal.

I guess I could have run my hand over the headboard and made it look not so giant wrinkle in the middle.

My husband puts the fake plants up around the house.

The dressers are staying as is – the bedroom set is a red mahogany and belonged to my great grandmother.
The Ikea frames are getting painted. I took those pictures the first week or so we were living here. I’m back and forth on replacing them.
Ceiling fan is going.

I probably could have dusted, but why clean twice? I want to put a new cover on the vanity seat. I might also put away some of the stuff I have out, but it is all stuff that is special to me. I have my grandmother’s rosary, my first communion purse with my mom’s wedding veil tucked inside, my grandmother’s (or great uncle’s) scapular from 1941, the little pink flower thing and clown mask were gifts I’ve had since I was little.
We are painting the ceiling. I know my taste is questionable, but no one actually sees our bedroom.
I might just go ahead and spray paint the gold door knobs.
This might also see some paint. We got it at Target a few years ago.
New colors!!!
Brandon has been working hard on putting the bed together. Mattresses get here on Friday so we need to get this stuff done!
This is what the boys were up to when I was taking pictures of the bedroom. I wouldn’t let them jump on the bed so they made their own little house out of pillows. I wish you could see how E has the leg of his shorts around his waist and the waist around one of his legs.

And just because people like to know these things – I used my 28mm, 6400ISO, f/3.5, and a less than 100 shutter speed for all these pictures.

I don’t think you’ll enjoy the feel of spraypainted door handles. You can get relatively inexpensive replacement ones at Home Depot. You can even get packs with multiple sets for a bigger discount. Your superKing sounds amazing
Have you spray painted door knobs before? Is Pinterest lying to me? I need to know more!
i had a first communion purse just like that! so excited to see your super king when it’s all done. :)
I love your photos, even of your bedroom! Can’t wait to see the after! I’d agree on replacing the knobs. Long term the spray paint might scratch or wear off, you know?
I’m super excited to see the results of all your hard work! This is going to be awesome! You have a great eye for detail that makes a big difference in interior design. I would never think to spray paint door knobs :)
